No Bad dreams (2018)
Medium: toy blocks on 4×5 film
“No Bad Dreams” is a triptych showcasing a quote from Bob Caron, tail gunner on the Enola Gay. The images themselves were taken by me on 4×5 in studio.
In my opinion, this quote shows how the creation of the atomic bomb and the subsequent use of it by the American military was treated by the government, and by the men who dropped it, as a child would treat a castle made of blocks.
‘No remorse. No bad dreams. We accomplished our mission.” is such a darkly powerful quote, and shows how weapons of mass destruction continue to be treated in the 21st century, especially in their use against innocent civilians, as a question of ‘necessity of use’.
